Traveling With a Pet This Summer?

It's vacation season, and many families will be bringing pets along. If you're staying in the U.S. and traveling by car, it's recommended that you at least bring a copy of your pet's vaccine records along, especially the rabies certificate. A more complete medical history may be helpful if your pet gets sick or injured while you're away from home. Those pets traveling domestically by air or train must comply with the carrier's specific requirements, but will likely need at least a vaccine history and an interstate health certificate showing that the animal is healthy enough to travel without posing risk to itself or other animals.  International travel is more complex, but the requirements of each destination country are conveniently spelled out at the website: www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel.  Also check with your airline for their requirements, too.  Due to respiratory and cardiac dangers, the AVMA does not recommend tranquilizing or sedating pets in transit.  Be sure to start the process early enough; some countries require multiple examinations, vaccines, tests, and parasite treatments on a very specific timeline prior to departure and arrival, and you'll need time to get the paperwork processed through your veterinarian and the USDA field office in downtown Austin!

Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is AAHA Accredited!

On our first try, Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch (AHSR) passed the comprehensive and stringent accreditation requirements of the American Animal Hospital Association. Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is now the only AAHA-accredited animal hospital between Cedar Park and Bee Caves! We're extremely proud of our staff, who put in a lot of work to prepare for our inspection and review. AAHA has hundreds of specific requirements for accredited hospitals to meet, ensuring you of independent evaluation and verification of processes, capabilities, and care standards not met in every veterinary hospital or clinic. We look forward to continuing to provide superior medical care to current and future client pets!
