Venomous Snakes Are Out! Watch Your Pet!
We've treated three venomous snakebites in the past two weeks, so it's clear that our legless neighbors are still quite active this late in the season. Use extra caution when letting your pet out at dusk, during the night, or at dawn. Turn on exterior lights and give them a few minutes to encourage snakes to retreat before letting pets out, and consider taking them out on a leash, not running free in the yard. Better safe than sorry! Signs of snakebite include localized swelling, bleeding, bruising, significant pain, and lethargy. If your pet shows any combination of these signs, get veterinary help immediately!
Why Buy Veterinary Products From a Veterinarian?
We get asked all the time to approve cheaper prescriptions to be filled through online pharmacies, big-box retailers, or other sales channels who may or may not be authorized by the medication manufacturers. Some think this is purely financially motivated. Yes, our employees need to make a living and we have to be profitable to stay in business, but we try to be as competitive as we can on our pricing even though we can't buy in the huge quantities large distributors can. Our product sales also subsidize the cost of operating the hospital to provide medical care less expensively. The more important issue is that there are people out there selling fake, expired, ineffective, illegal, and downright dangerous products to unsuspecting pet owners. The recent prosecution of several individuals for selling counterfeit veterinary products underlines the importance of being sure your pet gets genuine medicine. We only purchase direct from the manufacturers or authorized distributors, to protect you and your pet. If that peace of mind isn't worth a few extra dollars a month, what does that say about the value you place on your pet's health? Here's a case in point:
Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is AAHA Accredited!
On our first try, Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch (AHSR) passed the comprehensive and stringent accreditation requirements of the American Animal Hospital Association. Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is now the only AAHA-accredited animal hospital between Cedar Park and Bee Caves! We're extremely proud of our staff, who put in a lot of work to prepare for our inspection and review. AAHA has hundreds of specific requirements for accredited hospitals to meet, ensuring you of independent evaluation and verification of processes, capabilities, and care standards not met in every veterinary hospital or clinic. We look forward to continuing to provide superior medical care to current and future client pets!
