During business hours, The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch has a veterinarian and support personnel on duty who are trained and equipped to care for your pet. Usually our pet care team consists of at least one veterinarian and one or more veterinary technicians or veterinary assistants working together with our receptionists and other support staff to help your pet. We're pleased to offer the following services in our Austin veterinary hospital:
At The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch, our schedule is carefully structured to provide adequate time to see each client and pet based on the expected services, so we ask that you make an appointment in advance whenever possible. We strive to stay on schedule to respect your time, but emergencies and other delays do sometimes occur. Arriving a few minutes early (15 minutes early for first-time clients and pets) will help us to check you in and see you on time as best we can. We do accept "walk-ins", but clients with appointments receive priority except for emergencies. Our pet care team will always attempt to accommodate all pets needing care during clinic hours, unless we believe the animal would be best served elsewhere.
Pet health care works best when you and the doctor interact during the examination and discuss the issues, diagnostics, findings, treatment options, and progress. At times it may be necessary or convenient to have your pet spend some time in the hospital, for extended diagnostic testing, observation, and treatment. We may ask you to fill out a questionnaire about your pet's history and issues so that we have information to work from while you are not available. We will work with you on drop-off and pick-up times to fit your pet's medical needs and your schedule. Please note that the Steiner Ranch community does not allow animal boarding (except for valid medical needs) so all pets must be discharged at the end of the day to go home or to an overnight emergency facility.
Emergencies are accepted anytime the hospital is open. Emergencies can be things such as poisoning, severe injuries, bleeding, seizures, hit by car, snake bites, heat exhaustion, and chocolate ingestion. If your pet has an emergency during hospital hours, please call immediately. If we can determine that your pet's needs can be handled promptly here, we will have you come in. If we believe the extent of your pet's needs or our time and resource availability indicate your pet would be better served elsewhere, we may refer you to a specialized emergency facility. We keep your pet's needs the #1 priority, and the doctor will recommend the best approach for the situation. Knowing about your pet's emergency will also allow us to prepare the facility and staff to provide care rapidly when you and your pet arrive at The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch.
If we are closed, there are several well-equipped and very capable veterinary emergency hospitals in the Austin area that can handle critical cases that can't wait until our next business day. The nearest is Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES) at 7300 Ranch Road 2222. Call 512-343-2837.
The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is also here to provide your pet urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Except for true emergencies, clients with appointments will receive priority in being seen, but our staff will work hard and creatively to get you in as soon as a gap between existing appointments is available. When you arrive, our receptionists will try to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait to be seen.
The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is primarily a "companion animal practice" that provides care for household pets, including:
