During business hours, The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch has a veterinarian and support personnel on duty who are trained and equipped to care for your pet. Our pet care team typically consists of at least one veterinarian and one or more veterinary technicians or veterinary assistants working together with our front desk and other support staff to help your pet. We're pleased to offer the following services in our Austin veterinary hospital:
At The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch, our schedule is set up to provide adequate time with each pet based on the expected services, so planned appointments are preferred. We strive to stay on schedule, but emergencies and other delays do sometimes occur. Arriving a few minutes early (15 minutes early for first-time clients and pets) will help us to see your pet on time as best we can. We accept "walk-ins" but clients with appointments receive priority except for emergencies. Our pet care team will always attempt to accommodate all pets needing care during clinic hours, unless we believe the animal would be best served elsewhere.
Pet health care works best when you and the doctor interact and discuss the issues, diagnostics, findings, treatment options, and progress. At times it may be necessary for your pet to spend some time in the hospital for testing, observation, and treatment. When you leave your pet with us, we may need to interview you or ask you to fill out a questionnaire about your pet's history and condition so that we have information from which to work while you are not available. We will try to set check-in and pick-up times to fit your pet's medical needs and your schedule. Please note that the Steiner Ranch community does not allow boarding, so all pets must be discharged at the end of the day for overnight care at home or an emergency facility.
The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch is also here to provide your pet urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen soon. Except for true emergencies, clients with appointments will receive priority in being seen, but our staff will attempt to fit you in as soon as a gap is available. When you arrive, we will try to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait to be seen.
Emergencies are accepted anytime the hospital is open. Emergencies can be things such as poisoning, bleeding, seizures, hit by car, snake bites, heat exhaustion, chocolate ingestion, or other injuries or illnesses. If your pet has an emergency during hospital hours, please call immediately so that we can assess the situation and the doctor can decide upon the best approach for your pet's care, including routing you directly to a veterinary critical care facility. Knowing about the emergency will also allow us to prepare the facility and staff to provide care rapidly when you and your pet arrive at The Animal Hospital at Steiner Ranch.
If we are closed, there are several well-equipped and capable veterinary emergency hospitals in the Austin area that can handle critical cases that can't wait until our next business day. The nearest is Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (AVES). Call 512-343-2837.
